Jr dragster turn off

Postby Pool Man » Wed Mar 07, 2018 3:06 pm

If everyone would/could list the tracks they know of that allow jr dragsters to turn off the track through a open gate in the wall rather than drive all the way to the end of the track and turning off. Virginia Motorsports Park comes to mind for me. I can not remember if MIR does it or not. Seems as if they do.
I deserve respect for the things that i DO NOT do.

National Trail Raceway uses our Second Gate passed the finish line with Fire Safety Team there to direct the kids off.

Famoso raceway, wild horse pass AZ. These both have a gate shortly after the 1/4 mile finish they open for when Jr's run then close it for big cars. They do bring the safety safari to the gate and direct the kids off the track.

Thunder Valley in Bristol is one.

Around here though Dragway 42, Thompson, and Quaker City All have an early turn off.

Never really thought about it truthfully, unless the track is short for some reason I would think most have two turnoff's.

Texas Motorplex has a turn off. I think the Jr's would run out of fuel before they could get all the way to the end lol

Norwalk is a long track (1/2 mile shut down IIRC) without an early turn off. They do have a crash gate that is just past the 1/4 mile score boards that we have used on rare occasions but it really is to close and to tight a turn to be comfortable to use regularly.

No, we don't run out of fuel smiley-lol

One of my local tracks has the early turnoff, and the other doesn't. At the end of the day, it affects us zero either way. I know of families that won't race at one because of the long shutdown. I even know of one instance at the short one where they wanted permission to run all the way to the long shutdown because that was what they were used to. I get preferences, we all have them. But it seems like we can get so picky about the little things that it keeps us from experiencing some really great race tracks that do things just a little different than what we prefer. Safety is obviously not optional.

Fontana dragway is a 1/4 mile track, long shut down and only one turn out at the very end. 4-5 years back they use to have a gate just past the billboards they would open for Jr's then close for big cars. The design of it could of been a potential problem for a big car so they replaced it with a k-rail and make everyone go all the way down. By the end of the weekend we might use $5 extra in fuel. Being what we have all invested into this sport is it worth an extra $5 a weekend to keep everyone safe? I surely feel so.

I thought the early turn / gate option was to speed the program up, no??

We don't really care either, the boys like Atco in NJ because they have to drive to the end, but don't much care for Cecil County because the turn off is essentially 125 degrees ++ making it hard to navigate until you get used to it - but they are allowed to drive back up to the starting line, more than makes up for it!!
