First 8.90 pass!

Postby jtracr » Tue Apr 03, 2018 12:09 pm

Man time flies, my youngest turned 10 a few weeks ago. We have started with most race series as a 11.90 car so we have made the decision to run group 1 for most events. Well we had a race at Barona this past Saturday. I checked with the track to see if she could take 1 pass in her brothers car at the end of the day. Well she went to the finals in her group cutting us short on time. I picked her up and we rushed to switch cars and "let her fly"! Luck would have it her and her 11 yo brother are the same height and weight. I "suggested" lifting at the 330', mom was very nervous. Well she took it as just that, not a "have to" thing. She ran it all the way out perfectly and went 9.05 at 72 mph!
So now we are looking at what events we can swap out engines and run 8.90 then swap back for 11.90 stuff? I think this sounds like a LOT more work for dad! But we all have to remember they are only little once!

Reminds me of my daughter!
The first pass she made with an 8.90 set up had no weight on the car so she ran 8.75 @ 75 mph.
I told her to run to the 330', but if she felt confident to "go for it."
I guess that she felt confident...
We got the car set up and it soon was running 8.90.

Now, we are running 7.90 and the first time she made a pass she ran it out the back door.
On one run she ran a second long and the car ran 89.99 mph.
Didn't bother her.

The other night we were running T&T at The Texas Motorplex and they didn't have the 660' cones out.
She ran out to the 1000' cones!
I know that the car runs 1000' in 11:00!

That brings back an "odd" test session we had about 6-7 years ago. We were invited to Willow springs raceway, a road course that 4-6 times a year they set up a straight away into a dragstrip for street cars. We were looking at other options to run Jr's. We brought out 6 cars to test, 5 Jr's and a Jr comp. Well it was a VERY odd way to run. You couldn't do a burnout on the actual road course so we could do a burnout on the frontage road, make a u-turn up on to the strip then run. They only had 60' clocks then finish clocks at 1000'. All the Jrs we're running until there. We got our Jr comp into a low 9 @ 1000, I think faster than anything had done there!

Needless to say it wasn't going to work to put a Jr program together there. Was kinda a fun little outing though, odd memories like these are what will stick with the kids and parents for a long time!
