Lo206 not consistent HELP!!

Postby dragracr_1 » Mon Mar 05, 2018 1:50 am

I am on the second season on this 206 and just can't get it to repeat! We tested yesterday 7 runs:
First half. Back half
1. 11.70. 4.866. 4.365
2. 11.60. 4.823. 4.321
3. 11.52. 4.814. 4.276
4. 11.76. 4.880. 4.408
5. 11.56. 4.828. 4.336
6. 11.50. 4.794. 4.294
7. 11.65. 4.855. 4.374

Same launch rpm the 60' varied a max of .04 most were .01 between runs. Any ideas?? My son is killing the tree and I can't get the car to run the numbers. .15-.2 is not going to cut it. I am contemplating ordering a "built carb" this week and trying that or convert to methanol?? Currently running on non ethanol gas. I have moved the needle up and down with very little change other than having a hard time to set idle when it's too rich.

Any input ?

Is your head temp the same every time. My experience with these motors is that head temp has to be the same every run and they have to be run hot.

If you look at the increments where is the change happening? 0'60' 60-330' 330-660'?

What I've learned is get the motor simi hot. Like 250-300 CHT. Once you set the idle the first time don't touch it anymore the rest of the day. I believe I've ran mine on the 2nd clip from the top. I know teamvortec is running one right now and having good numbers with his.
Let's go fast and be safe at it. Thanks to Ken Dabney, TintMaster, Mike George, Wayne Thornton and Thornton Motorsports for all there help guiding me into this new sport.

Please ad 60' and 330 times as well as motor temps, time of day and ambient temp. Any other weather info you have as well as all this can affect a run.

ENGINE TEMPS - Huge factor. I figure in all caps you might read it this time! Lol the cylinder want 240-250 on the starting line and the car will vary 2/10 sec with a 20 deg variation.

Like everyone will tell you ENGINE TEMP is very important. The hotter they are the better they run. Also make sure your routine is the same when you warm the up and stage them so temps will be the same. When I get to the track I fire it up and let it warm up and set the mixture where it is happy and I keep in the back of my head what the weather will be like that day of racing and maybe a touch rich or a touch lean. Once I set that up before first pass I don't touch it. Set the rpms on first pass right before you send them into the beams and then leave it alone. Hope this helps. Bad part for us this year is our 206 destroyed itself first time testing and our new 206 makes more power so all of my weight setups from last year are trashed. Can't complain with our old motor though we bought it 2yrs ago used and when I called Fred to order a new one he remembered selling it to the original owner and was surprised it was still running. It was over 4yrs old and while we had if any track close to us was open he was there making passes.
