So what seems to work for us when we get to the track we warm up the engine, normally around 4K RPM try to get the engine temp to around 150, normally takes a “tank” of gas.
When they do a burn out I have it around 38-40. Then adjust afterwards to get it around the same numbers again. You will need to play with it. Last year we found that the clutch would start to grab around 43-44. If you want them to have a faster reaction time get them closer to the clutch grabbing. if they are red lighting then slow them down 100.
Just have fun with it, its a big learning curve. We play with one thing at a time. one test and tune play with tire pressure and see how it effects the car, don’t forget the front will effect it also. We are starting our second full season with a new car so its back to basics for us too. Just ask questions and the parents will fill your head with all the information that you want i bet.
Keeping notes on RPM, temps, tire pressure, and clutch behavior really helps track what works. Minor tweaks for changing track conditions can also make a big difference.
